Eben Upton joins me for a rather special extra episode to announce the immediate release of the Raspberry Pi Model B+. And here it is…
It features four USB ports, 40 GPIO pins and a considerably tidied board layout that boasts four evenly spaced mounting holes and connectivity laid out over two of the edges. The power has joined HDMI and sound on the near-side long edge of the board. We haven’t lost composite video with the Model B+ – it now resides as an extra pin on the 3.5″ jack along with greatly upgraded audio circuitry to eliminate the audio issues that plagued the Model B Rev 2.
If that’s not enough, the Raspberry Pi Model B+ boasts considerably better power consumption shaving between 0.5 and 1 watt off the previous model. That’s a massive saving that should help battery-run projects last considerably longer in the field.
Those 14 extra GPIO pins are going to come in very hand indeed too. Not only does the layout of the first 26 pins mirror the old Rev 2 board perfectly, but you’ll also find not one but two hardware PWM-capable pins. Amazing news for roboteers everywhere!
Eben reveals much more during the show, so if you haven’t started listening to it already, you’d better get started!
Model A+ ‘to be released in a few months’
Raspberry Pi 2 wont happen until 2017. Here’s why…
